Plasticity in Central Nervous System

The central nervous system (CNS) shows amazing plasticity and yet our ability to cure or mitigate the detrimental effects of degenerative pathologies such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and glial scarring after injury is limited by a lack of comprehensive understanding of the various factors in the CNS that affect neuron health and astrocyte function. We are interested in probing and deciphering the role of physical cues in cellular homeostasis in the CNS and neuronal function. We are also interested in understanding connectivity between hippocampal neurons and role of physical cues in establishing these connectivities and we hope to shed new light into how memory might be formed.
